Well argued Henry!
I totally agree that some of the proposed solutions to global warming might actually be harmful. Ethanol fuel made from corn drastically raised prices for bread in Mexico. Also, the ethanol actually takes a lot of energy to produce (the energy comes from oil alright).
Also, the "clean" technology is harmful in another way. It makes people think the government is doing something and lessens demand for more action. This is why it is very important to research global warming as thoroughly as possible and make the data publicly available in an easy way (too bad people who do it, like Al Gore get such a profit). Once we know EXACTLY what we need to do and the consequences of what will happen if we don't, then it will be harder for politicians and various interest groups to try and squeeze a profit form the thing. Information is power.
Finally, I want to say that it is bad how the media only talks about things when a large enough interest group has a financial stake in the matter. The best we can hope for is that there are enough interest groups to balance each other out and provide the public with both sides of each issue. Or wait until everyone uses the internet and media power is decentralized.

By the way, the pesticide used to keep corn crops from being eaten by insects is an oil-based liquid. Thought this might be something to add.

That's a very bad dependency on fossil fuels. Even worse than not being able to move vehicles is not being able to make enough food or transport them into cities. This can destablize a country as people will fight for food and survival. I don't see this happening since fuels will dwindle over time. But food should not be dependent on something that will run out.
