I believe that turning this into an art/creative writing thing (even just centrally as opposed to exclusively) would be excluding a lot of people
and as far as having a place to post that stuff . . .well, for one, wtf is the art board for? writing could go there too but I could agree if you're saying it ought to have its own area

I actually like how the forum has many focuses. Right now you can still post and critique art and writing, but there are also many other things you could do. I'm with lev here. The forum has always been a smorgasborg of ideas and debate, anything and everything is game, which is what makes it fun. I think the problem now is that every body feels that their posts NEED a purpose to be validated, as we're all "mature" now. But if you think back in time, all we did was post random shit from our lives, INCLUDING art and philosophy and writing, but mostly just stuff. The way I think of it is like a interactive co-op blog. And I think it could work really well that way again, if we had more interest, and if we could make the freedom clear, while still encouraging people to come here for specific needs or interests, like video games or art or writing.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think there is probably a way to reorganize the boards in a way that will make the forum make more sense. Perhaps we can move the art and music boards into a seperate category, such as "Creative Stuff." We could have a general category for the general board and whatever. I am also liking the idea of making a board for writing. And perhaps we could move philosophy into a seperate category and maybe also add a politics board or something. Looking at the layout now, it doesn't make all that much sense. For one, the philosophy and poetry board is peculiar because it is designed for two purposes that are fairly different. I am going to look into a few things in the proboards rules before I say a lot more, and I think I'll cut off this post now because I seem to just be rambling. One thing that I think would be important, since we are mature and all is to make mod elections a little more spaced out. Such as one every three or four months. Reason we haven't had one for a long time is because a while back I got pretty tired of having the mod elections and then getting like four votes, and then resetting the date in order to allow people more time to vote. After a while it just got ridiculous. But the system we have now seems more reasonable, still needs some tweaking though I think. Damn, I'm still rambling aren't I? Anyways, I'm gonna head on out. Peace.

YAY!! God posted!! And I really like all that pavel, I'll get to thinking on some suggestions on how things could be reworked. A mod per board seems like overkill, specially since the only thing that has really gone wrong is henry's posts on the art-war, and those are easily ignored and axed. We're all mature now. But maybe two or so mods with a bit more power would be good.

yeah I guess.
the 3 or 4 month thing is just what I was thinking. Elections should still be held, but yeah, further spaced apart.

I've been doing some thinking about the reorganization and here's the rough sketch that I have in my head so far. General: - General Discussion - Humor Board Music: -Contemporary Music -Classical Music -Musician Corner Art (I just realized that this area is still sketchy in my head): -Contemporary Art -Classical Art -Artist's Corner Needs editting I know. Writing: -Books -Poetry -Writers'R'Us Intellectual Discussion: -Cafe Plato (Philosophy) -Bitchin' Battleground (Politics) Gaming: -Computer/Console Games -All other games -Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers! (game developing talk) Administrative: -Forum Discussion -yadda yadda yadda Edit: Oh yeah, and about the moderators. For now I think we should probably stick with the one global mod. If the forum takes off, however, I think that we could try having one global moderators and also moderators that are local to certain boards. It's pretty obvious that if we get regular members some will be drawn to some of the boards more than they will be drawn to others. So the most sensible and frequent visitor/posters to their respective boards can be made into local moderators who watch for trouble on whatever board it is that they frequent.

Nice layout, though I'd be afraid that thats spreading it out too thin. We should hear from the people that feel more attached to different boards though, see what they feel is lacking.

I think we should be careful with board overspecialization. If they are too spread out, each board will seem dead which might discourage frequent visiting.

I know that at first the boards won't have all that much on them. Work will definately need to be done to sort the posts that exist now into their respective boards. But I think that if activity starts picking up the layout above will be liked by people because it offers many different topics to discuss.

I think that degree of specialization is fine but only if and when we have enough people posting frequently enough to keep each board with a post thats been made within like. . . the last 3 days or so, but before then (ie. now) maybe just having one for each category would work out, then we can see what kind of material gets put up and specialize from there when the need arises
