It's amazing how many actors we have in society. And you don't just find them in Hollywood or New York. They're everywhere. People who just play a character every day to try and be "popular" and make people like them. It's really really disgusting. I vote acting should be reserved for the stage! Who's with me?
(and PLEEEEASE don't bring up little things like "acting" surprised for a surprise party that you found out about or something like that)

Acting should not. Pretending and lying to yourself and others should be. There is a difference, I think...

Sorry... I guess I should explain clearer. I was talking more about people who sorta wear a facade every day and pretend to be someone they're not.

I don't see the point in pretending to be angsty and depressed.

What gets to me is when people act just to win an argument or gain something.

I don't see the point in pretending to be angsty and depressed. You have poor imagination then.

Have you read Catcher in the Rye by any chance? I tend to dislike phonies too. Especially those who go into school government just "so it looks better on college applications" and those who use super fast memory to "learn" things to for a test and forget the moment after. I guess this may be considered acting of sorts... Sorry if this is off topic.

I learn things from tests sorta that way too, but in way it's a survival mechanism... think how cluttered my brain would be if i retained all knowledge? ALso in terms of piano playing, even if i practice a song till I could play it in my sleep without thinking about it, I I stop practicing it, I forget how to play it...

dont worry, everyone has different ways of learning. i guess what jeff meant was that he thinks it is annoying when people dont even try to learn then learn everything by copying/cheating before a test. Is that right...? Maybe I'm off target.
Yah, acting is pretty annoying. In some cases, like you said, you should act though. = )

Yeah. It is not bad if you forget after not praticing much. I forgot much of my piano skills unfortunately due to lack of practice. Like Marla said, I was just refering to those who don't learn for knowledge at all, just for the short term grade exclusively.

Sometimes if I don't play a piece for a long time, and then I suddenly decide to play it, it often comes out better than when I had been playing it daily. But yeah, I agree that there's something really wrong in cramming info for a test and then forgetting it. But it's not our fault, it's just the stupid education system. Re: Acting Those of you who understand russian might find this link entertaining or just interesting; www.rbcmp3.com/store/album_asx.asp?sku=17786. Skip to the very last track. Except for the first line, it doesn't really have much to do with the topic, though. There is a saying, "The world is a theatre, and the people in it are all actors." It's natural for us to impersonate people/things that we are not. Sometimes we succeed at it so well that we actually change into what we act. Some people just suck at it and it comes through - in a bad way.
