Ok, so I think I finally got some stuff up worth posting. Some of it's better than others, but I think it all shows some improvement compared to the ass-tacular stuff that I did at the end of High School. I'm sure I'll be looking at this and groaning in a few years but that's how it goes. vaxillus.deviantart.com/

Hrm, wonder why everyone likes that one so much. I think my more recent ones are slightly better.

hmm I dont know, I want to say something looks wierd with the characters you are drawing, but I think the biggest thing is that in your new ones the characters dont seem to match the background.

I suppose I've been kinda bsing the backgrounds on the last few, but I wanted to emphasize the characters and not their location. I'd undertand for the 'Just a Scratch' one, but I think 'Raze' does match pretty well except for maybe the texture and 'Holy Light' barely even has one.

I just feel like I can relate better to the robot love one than any of the others really..

Everything except 'Hunger' was done completely in Photoshop CS2. I sketched Hunger out be hand and scanned it in, something I've been meaning to do much more of since I'm WAAAAAY better at sketching with natural media. I use a tablet, it's a Wacom Intuos 3 and I <3 it. Unless you really practice at it, using a mouse is far inferior for doing strokes and such. I still use it for selections sometimes though.
I friended you on DevArt, because I need friends there.

I actually prefer traditional methods, mostly acrylics or watercolor, though I've learned how to use Prismacolor markers recently thanks to my design classes. It requires a lot of prep work though as well as space. Seeing as I have neither time nor space, digital wins out. I'm looking forward to doing some traditional stuff this summer.
I've found tablets are their own animal, it's different than drawing by hand but it takes some practice to get used to. At first I was only drawing about as well as with a mouse, but you improve a lot faster. Having pressure sensitivity is a godsend as well, nothing like being able to vary the linewidth just by pressing down or easing up.
Oh, I looooooove painter. I got to use it once for a class I took. It's so much better than photoshop for the actual coloring and sketching. PS is better for manipulating and such though. As of now I just haven't picked it up, I'm sure I could get the educational version for cheap enough. I should have a job this summer, so hopefully that will let me invest in it.
