Aside from classical composers and bandgroups, there is also the world of BARDS! Vysotsky, Okudjava, Galich... Those who understand Russian (and value satirical and artistic humor) may follow this link to a few "sample" songs by my personal favorite bard, Shaov. members.tripod.com/ogreg/shaov.html

Ooh, new favorite Russian song:
"Malenkaya Devochka" - by ?
(lyrics start "little girl with the glance of a she-wolf")
Also worthy:
"Krov" - ? "Brat Nikotin" - DDT "Podozhdem" - Igorek
Not classics of modern music, of course, but I enjoyed listening to them.

Those who understand Russian may find this link amusing. Skip to Track 02 (Actually, this particular album is probably the worst of the five by this guy, but track 02 is really worth listening to). www.rbcmp3.com/store/album_asx.asp?sku=30609P.S. This also explains where I got my signature. P.P.S. If you like what you hear, let me know. I can direct you to four more (and better) albums.

New awesome artist from the UK: Nitin Sawhney
His music is modern mixed with classical Indian (as in India) music. The CD I borrowed from my friend is a complex argument in music protesting nuclear testing in India. Fabulous. Buy!
And did I really forget to mention the Icelandic Sigur Ros and Bjork?!?!
