Ok, so at the complaints of a few of the members that the forum is lacking activity as well as interesting stuff to do, I decided to make this. It's an RPG, but it doesn't have a gaming system. Basically you create a character and act out what they do and I'll tell you the results. Anyway, first the setting.
In case you couldn't guess by the title, this RPG takes place in an insane asylum. It's completely fictional and highly stylized. You are all the patients, at various stages of insanity. Expect things to be very gothic and deal with the infernal and angelic (This will also be stylized and fictional, and I will try not to offend anyone). Things will get violent, but I will try to emphasize the story so as not to bore you (there is no real combat system anyway). Whether it's interesting or not will revolve around the interest of the players and amount of personality thier characters have.
The rules to the game are quite simple:
-I will begin by posting. I will state what happens, to whom, possible things you can do, and other such things.
-The players and the players alone can discuss what they see, their plan of action, etc. I will allow a day or so, the length depending on the amount of time they would, in reality, have to debate such matters. Sometimes I will ignore this phase if the characters would have no chance of reacting.
-After the time has elapsed or all characters are done debating, I will Post 'ACT!'
-After this, the players, and the players alone will be allowed to post once each, determining how they react to what happens. I will give this about a day or two or untill all players have posted to make my next post.
-I can, at any time, ask a single player to respond. Only they can post.
-The cycle continues in this manner. If anyone posts out of turn or out of game context, I reserve the right to delete their post.
Guideline for character creation:
You are all human, you are all insane (to varying degrees). You are residents of somewhere in the United Kingdom, though most of you will not remember the name of the city where you used to live. Please try to stay away from the psycho killer who attacks anyone he/she can, make the characters so they can, to some very limited level, interact. Also, to keep the characters from becoming godlike (if that term can be used for such individuals), I have prepared a system to rate a characters physical and mental abilities:
You have 17 points to spend.
-3 is an average level of capability
-2 and 4 are slightly better or worse
-1 and 5 are almost completely lacking and highly skilled respectively
-I will also allow one statistic to be a 6, though I recomend staying away from this unless it's a very strong part of the character's personality
The attributes are:
-Shape: This is the kind of shape you're in. You don't need to be very muscular in appearance to have a high value in this, just be in good physical condition and know how to use what strength you have. (this is basically offensive physical fighting ability)
-Stealth: This includes sneaking and not being noticed in general. If your character knows how to make themselves sink into a crowd, look unimportant, or physically hide, then they should have a high rank in this skill.
-Persistence: Do they give up easily, or do they keep going? This is partially mental and partially physical. Characters may have a strong belief system or just be stubborn.
-Insanity: This is how off the rocker the character is. A character with a high rank in this will have visions, multiple personalities (this could be fun), OCD, or have some sort of complex.
-Sembelance (sp?) of Sanity, or 'S of S': This is how sane the character seems to be. Those with a high rank will be easier to comunicate with and won't do wierd things, like talking to inanimate objects or randomly blurting out words, at least not often. They may also think more logically if they don't also have a high insanity.
-Inteligence: This is a loose word, but basically a character's ability to solve problems, mathematical and otherwise. A character with a high score in this and a low score in S of S might act like an infant, but be able to solve complex mathematical equations.
When desinging your characters, give them a personality, the various disorders that afflict this personality, and try to avoid copying what other people have done.
Post your characters below. After they are finalized, assuming we have enough, we'll start (I'll make a new thread and probaly sticky it).
