I have just come to realize that day is not the opposite of night. Day is merely the absense of night, day is merely a veil to cover the night's presence.
So, what do you think?

Why not say that night is the cover for the day? Well, actually, if you take the unvierse, it's dark, so makes sense. Only the stars make it light, make it day. Light is the opposite of night, then. My logic is absent today, too. Darn.

An opposite is equal to its opposer. Light in the vast universe is only a small percentile.

You don't know for sure. Maybe there's a lot of stars far far away, and their light makes the light equal to the darkness.

On planet earth, 'tis not so. Far away it is not night any longer.

darkness is the absence of light, light and dark are opposites.
night is the period of time when the sun does not give direct light to the earth, day is when it does. Therefore night is the opposite of day.
And I don't think one can call day a veil over night, afterall, night is FAR from dark. Also one can't say that day covers over night's presence. there is not a LAYER of night beneath day.
Really if one is going to call ANYTHING a veil, it would be the earth blocking out the suns rays, now wouldn't it?

and there does NOT have to be an equal number of two opposites in order for them to be opposites.

There is a crack in the Earth somewhere. When you go into it during the day, you can see the stars. Nowhere during the night can you see the sun (unless it's far north or south, but then that shouldn't really be labelled night).

You don't have to look at it. I intend this to be a serious discussion, and if you can't handle it then leave.
On the other hand, it HAS shifted a bit from where I intended it to go... -_-
