Everyone's become a mute recently, so I'm gonna break the silence. I recently saw the movie Silent Hill and quite honestly I was impressed. While I can't give it more than an eight out of ten, for a movie based off a video game to fair so stupendously is truly a relief. Story: Great story. It starts off a bit slow but it progresses quite well. The ending is a bit unnecessary in its harshness, but other than that it really draws you in. Acting: Meh, not so great. This is mostly because of some poorly written and placed lines, as well as the fact that the little girl can't act normal (she's great as her creepy counterpart though). It doesn't ruin the movie, but for such a great story they could have done better. Visuals: OMFG! The costumes in this movie are some of the best I have ever seen! The creatures are truly creepy and Pyramidhead (see it and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about) is one of the coolest characters I've seen in a movie. Some of the scenes will stick with you far after the movie is over (especially the transitions into the dark world). Other Stuff: One thing that kinda disapointed me about this movie is that it isn't as scary as it should be. There are a few heart throbbing moments, but there are too many characters for too much of the time. It's "SCREAM!" "oh hi, now we can be scared together," "crap we're separated SCREAM!" whereas the games do a better job of showing the psycholigical strain the setting causes on the characters. There's also quite a bit of gore, though it's not so much a gross out movie in that sense as movies like Hostile (didn't see this, but I've heard a lot). If you like supernatural horror, SEE THIS MOVIE! Just don't expect anything great, just good. P.S.: a few parts may be a bit offensive to religious folks since the movie has a cult of fanatics. They're fanatics though, the kind that burned witches and stuff, so hopefully this isn't you .

Le Sentinelle? Is it coming out in English?
@ Terry: Yes, but they're not your average zombies. They'll scare zombies
BTW, this movie made me go and buy two of the Silent Hill games. I wanted to get the first, but I'll be lucky if I can find it for under $60 at this point. Yes, I'm serious.

OUCH Uhm, the sentinel, if you really can't translate. It should already be out. FBI agent in charge of the first lady is accused of treason or something, has to fight for his freedom. Its good. Has toronto in it. My sis and her bf are big silent hill fans, though I havn't played yet. And I know they have the first. Just to make you sad, ahah. we, booze doesn't mix with typing. oh, and go update asylum

Hm, haven't been paying much attention to the theaters lately (apart from Silent Hill) and the FBI stuff really doesn't excite me. Asylum will be updated shortly, I was not feeling well last night so I negelected to update it.
Edit: Just a note, Silent Hill was originally inspired by Jacob's Ladder, a movie that I now absolutely have to watch.

Jacobs Ladder is a trippy film about veterans of the Vietnam war, I think...maybe...sorta kinda almost. Oh well.
Thanks for the review, I'll actually consider watching it. The soundtracks for the videogames were great, too.

In that case, it's worth mentioning that all the music from the movies is straight from the video games.

OK so I just finished watching this and now I can give a giant bump to this thread and post a review. I don't really know how to do this cuz there were alot of bad things and good things so I think I'll do it in clumps.
Intro: Sucked. Wtf? It just didn't do anything to draw me into the problem at hand. If it had introduced characters and then had a dangerous situation, I would've cared. Instaed my first impression was the the mom was flighty and crazy and the girl was stupid and fucked in the head.
Beginning: Also stupid. Mom randomly runs off with daughter, but I have to reason to side with her, no understanding of why it's improtant. Then the cop hassles her, wtf? why pick on a random mother? THEN she runs away from the cop, even stupider, and pointless. All this led up to making me happy and vindicated when the stupid mom crashes and loses her child, then gets arrested.
Town: FUCKING AWESOME. Love the modern ghost town, love the ash, love the graphics, love the cut off in the town, the monsters underneath the town, the acid spurting, Everything!! But I still don't get why the mother is chasing her child. A: you can't blame the kid for running away, she's crazy and her mom is crazy. B: I can't care that the mother cares cuz the stupid kid ran away in the first place, serves her right too.
Middle scenes: Running around town, exploring school, second coming of darkenss, random creepy men, all amazing. By this point I'm tuning out a bit that shes chasing her child and enjoying it. Love the crazy dead guy in the stall, the beatles, and of course PYRAMID HEAD!! woot.
Church: awe3some graphics, interesting addition of crazy fundamentalis, love the blame on them, the fact that the evil is retribution for evil, all that. Acting still sucks. Cop chick sacrificiung herself was stupid too.
End: Uhm the climax in the churich was amazingly violent. And the sudden revelation of everyting in the last few scenes of the movie sucked too. I thing too much was lacking fromteh build in the movie, too much was left out til the end for it to really draw me in. final scenes with the seperate realities was cool though.
Uhm wow, this is so random and rany and mispelled, I'll come back and fix this latermaybe.

Good review. Now you understand my love for Pyramid Head.
I watched this again when they showed it on my school's personal movie channel. Didn't like it as much as the first time. Imagery still rocked, but everything else seemed worse than I remembered it. The last gore scene was extremely unnecessary, stuff like that never happens in the game.
