I recently have switched over to Ubuntu (a linux distribution (if you dont know what that is, then you should probably stop reading here and google it) and while Ive been having my fair share of problems Ive learned a lot and improved a lot, and overall its a lot of fun. I was wondering if anybody else had used any alternative OS's out there, or if anybody wanted to know anything about Ubuntu.

Stop speaking gibberish!
Just kidding. I've actually been meaning install Linux for the past few years but have somehow never gotten around to doing it. (The closest I've come is installing Debian, but I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to figure out how to compile the installer for my video card.)

I had linux on one of my machines a while back and while it was nifty and everything it just wasn't as easy to pick up and use as windows always has been so I kinda got rid of it. . . . if you can figure out how to use it efficiently and customize everything to your liking, that kind of stuff is great, but I just don't really find that I care enough about the options it gives you to really pursue it that much

Btw.. the command line is fun. And unlike windows, you can actually do things with it on linux. I accidently screwed up my video card drivers and couldnt run a graphical interface, so I spent a week browsing the internet and using my comp via command line.

In the last couple months I've tried several distributions, some installed and some by cd. The coolest one I've tried is called dyne:bolic, it's a live cd designed for audio/video production, packed with software (and free).
I tried Xubuntu (kind of like Ubuntu Lite) for awhile but I never found much use for it, so it's gone.

There are a lot of distributions out there, and a lot of them are good. I chose Ubuntu mainly because Ive got a friend who uses it and knows what hes doing, so if I need help he is usually there for me.

I just did a bit of research, and it turns out that Ubuntu is widely considered one of the best non-specialized Linux distros. Hum, why not. Downloading!

If you have any questions, just ask. Are you gonna be dual booting? or are you installing it on a blank computer?

My cousin installed Ubuntu on my computer when my hard drive crashed and Ubuntu we could run out of the RAM so we were able to backup all of my files. Ubuntu is a lifesaver!

I installed it on my laptop (dual boot)...it worked for like the first two days...then suddenly my sound was gone. I wasn't in the mood to look thru the community forum thingy so i uninstalled it and put xp back on =P
