Race hasn't really been used against anyone I think. But Korean organizations were worried that there might be a backlash.
I guess it is more how the fear of this exists at all that says something about our society.

I reccon that the reason we have the right to bear arms is to protect ourselves from the government. Unfortunately I think it should go to 1 of 2 extremes. 1, F-14's, Bazookas and all that kind of stuff is available to the public (so that we are armed at the same level as the military that "protects us") or 2, Guns are outlawed for us, and the police and military forces arent allowed to be deployed against citizens.

One article has and the idea has been referenced/acknowledged a couple times already. My cousin in Australia has voiced her fear that her brother and his Korean girlfriend might not want to go to Cornell after all. It's just a little ridiculous.

The article states that Korean people were nervous of retalitation, but I didn't see how race was being blamed for the shooting. It also states that his family had a tough time in Korea but again, it doesn't seem to be saying that being Korean had anything directly to do with this.
About the fear of retalitation, I do agree with you. As I've said, the fact that it should even have to be a fear at all is saying it is quite possible for anti-Korean actions to happen.

I don't think theres enough of a negative feeling towards koreans already in existence to get it blamed on that factor.
either way, I agree with jeff, people shouldn't need to be afraid that this'll turn into that kind of a thing.

I don't think it's a matter of people forgetting Korea, at least not the way people forget the Spanish American war or something, it's just that Korea falls between WWII and Vietnam, so it's not that exciting in contrast.

It could have been more exciting if the general in charge had gotten permission to carpet bomb with nukes like he wanted to. Definitely a good thing it didn't happen, though.

Surprisingly, up here in Canada nobody has even heard of these shootings...at least in Victoria.
I wonder if we are all getting desensitized to school shootings b/c they are starting to become common.

How can that be? It was world news I think, even other countries sent condolences. How many people did you ask?

And how many of those people are known for living on their computers or spending all waking hours drunk?

I talked to my 3 roomates and 2 friends. Though to be fair, it wasn't a very good poll b/c 2 of them do spend all day in their rooms. I also never said that I didn't hear about it...I have google news on my new igoogle homepage. Yes...So true...I don't check the date on the threads :s You got me. Thankfully you aren't the moderator anymore or I could have gotten in a lot of trouble.
