Here comes that time of year again... as finals come up, classes pack in as much work as they can fit, and I procrastinate it all.... So my question is this, what evolutionary benefit does procrastination do? and if it gives us none... why do we procrastinate...?

Evolutionary benefit? I highly doubt procrastination provides one for us... But if it did, it might be that we all don't turn into bored mind numbing drones...
We procrastinate because there is a better alternative to what we should be doing. For example, homework. It's important to always keep your brain stimulated because it helps you develop better brain power or something... That and it's simply human nature.
We always search for something new and exciting to do, and studying for something we have learned for half a year to a year already... is not new and exciting...
All in all, we probably procrastinate because it's actually better for us... Better for our minds anyway...
Yeah yeah, there would be those who would disagree with me by saying "Well if you don't do it, you wont learn it! And learning is better for your brain!" Maybe, but 95%, no. Like I said, you've probably been doing it for half a year to a year already. If that's still not good enough for you, take one of the concepts you are learning, and ask your parents how they apply that concept to their daily lives. Chances are they don't. That's more evidence that none of this will matter in your life 10 years down the road.
LONG LIVE PROCRASTINATION AND ALL WHO PARTAKE IN DOING SO!!! ;D ;D ;D

i would like to point out that learning ur chem or whatever your studying will have very little impact on how likely you are to survive... something like going on a date (which might actually be a good quality in evolutional terms) is not something your as likely to put off therefore people only really procrastinate on things that don't matter
and wth are you doing thinking about finals in april, what kind of school do you go to?

Well I obviously know you because in the philosophy board you said.... "I agree with ali." If you know me well enough to call me by my first name, then I must know you well. If I knew you well, then either I would know you were on the forum (and who you were) or more porbably you go (or went) to the same school as me.

I dont think that matters... even If I werent (although I dont see too many places where i gave my name...) you would still probably call me Aenarion if you didnt really know me.... Plus just by the fact that you are on this forum means you know somebody else on it... and not too many forum goers dont know everybody else at the school as welll. All in all facts point to the fact that I know you.
