SPOILERS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jesus dies.
What was Mel Gibson thinking? The passion of christ? What kind of a lousy name is that? A book dramaticizing what happened in the bible, woohoo sounds great.
Well, it's already started a whole bunch of controversy, a lot from those who claim it's anti-simetic(sp?). I can see the law suit now: MY JEWISH SON COMITTED SUICIDE BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE WAS EVIL!!!...
Mel Gibson is a creep anyway. He's a flagellant for crying out loud.
Anyways, opinions on the new moive? I think it's horrible, though I admit I haven't seen it yet.
Edit: Added a spoiler.

I am always a bit unsure about him. He says he thinks that the Bible has to be taken literally all through it or not at all. Which probably means he is a creationist... oh well. From what I read from my newspaper, and seen on TV it does not seem to anti-semetic, but I am sure some fundamentalist idiot will find some way to justify oppressing the Jews again from this.

I don't get is why it matters at all whether the movie is anti-Semetic - I mean, obviously they aren't the same Jews...

It was the Romans anyway who killed Jesus...and if you think about it, all they were doing was trying to maintain order and suppress rebellion in the usual roman way. There was nothing special about what happened to Jesus, Jerusalem was under military occupation, having been conquered recently. Pilot was carrying out the proper mandates of martial law, he just chose the wrong guy to execute, and ended up starting a religious movement.

Correction, it's "Pilate" not Pilot.

Unfortunately, for about 2000 years, this logic was apparently out of grasp for a lot of people. Much of the persecution of the Jews was justified upon the "fact" that they killed Jesus many years in the past.

He might be a creationist, but I know he's a flagellant too. You know, the people that ran around while the plague was ravaging Europe and beat each other with whips and stuff because they were evil? Well, he's a modern flagellant, mostly they just stick needles into themselves.

It is someone who puts pain upon themselves in order to clean themselves spiritually. Something like that.

That is true. Unfortunately, for about 2000 years, this logic was apparently out of grasp for a lot of people. Much of the persecution of the Jews was justified upon the "fact" that they killed Jesus many years in the past. This is absolutely true, Jeffo. A Catholic woman used to take care of my brother and I when I was younger, and some of her church fellows would imply to her that we were decendants of "those who had killed Jesus". Adeline (the woman who took care of my brother and I), would stand up for us explaining that it was in fact the Romans, etc. etc. etc. and that Jews were good people. But it just goes to show that even today some people are a little bit nutty. I also heard that he altered some things to make it appear more dramatic/ anti-semetic. But I don't know. That's a rumor.

Most controversial movies' reviews will be split half-and-half because of biases.

i just figured the movie had to be extremely controversial, because for people to argue about it, they have to see it, which requires paying for tickets, which means people get richer....
