It involves art, but is a game fundamentally. I'd say games.

I don't see how a bunch of random unrelated pictures of silly stuff can qualify as art. As Jeff has said, it is a game.

Where do you draw the line? Aren't the two related? Would a discussion about graphics engines be more art? or game? Couldnt it be both?
Couldnt the Art Game be both art and game? I think the split in the polls speaks for itself, and its probably best to just leave it where it is.

graphics engines would be programming.
personally I don't think the art game has much of anything to do with art as far as its incarnation on these forums go. pretty sure the only reason its even called "art" game is because when you do it in person you're supposed to draw all the crap

I think it's still a right brain process coming up with a clever and creative response. So what if it doesn't involve personal drawing.

When I said a discussion about graphics engines, I wasnt talking about the creation of a graphics engine but rather the application (which doesnt always involve programming). If you want me to pull out other examples of areas where video games and art merge I can do so but I dont think you can dispute that in recent pop culture there have been many video game related art pieces, and theres even a couple video games where you make art too.
Im pretty sure the reason its called an art game is because pictures are generally found to be "art" and so, in a roundabout way, you are searching for art to beat the last persons art, in, what could then be called an "art game", but Im gonna let you come to your own conclusions here since you seem to think art and games dont mix.

in my opinion video games are art.
and alex, who cares if its creative? creativity =/= art
succeeding in many games over other players requires creativity of some kind (finding a new combination of moves that others hadn't thought of in a fighting game, customizing your stats and equipment to work well together in an RPG)

Just because you think of something new, doesn't make it creativity. I would say more games require logic, or accidents to master than creativity.
And in my opinion creativity does equal art.

And in my opinion creativity does equal art. ah, see, now you're using the word art differently than you were before. the poll asks which board this should go on, art or games, and the art boards are pretty clearly graphic art, otherwise having music boards would be completely redundant. unless you're trying to say that all creativity = graphic art, but I doubt you are

I would argue that changing what you mean by something mid-discussion is about 20 times more stupid than pointing that you did that out (mostly because now it has nothing to do with the topic).

Scott says: Art War makes me giggle. Therefore, it could easily be in the Humor Section. However, I believe this argument is moot, since no matter where it is, art or homemade game, we'll still play it.
