I've only read a collection of short stories entitled "best of H.P. Lovecraft: Tales of Horror and the Macabre" but I'll be collecting other stuff by him, soon

He only has short stories. He was too insane to make concerted efforts at anything and besides that he only became famous post-mortem. However he has quite a few short stores that were posted in various magazines and such.

Sounds like an Edgar Allen Poe rip off

They led similar lives because they were similarly afflicted, and yes Eddy did inspire H.P. but so did a lot of other things

In fact, Mr. Lovecraft did some imitations of Poe when he was younger. However, Lovecraft's later work invovles demonic cults and space-aliens (often in tandem), so I believe that distanced him from Poe quite a bit.

I should check this fellow out sometime. Any recommendations for what of his to read first?

Not really. I think you won't have much choice though, the possibly only current publication of him is a collection of all his short stories in a series of like 8 books. Just choose one at random, there's no real rhyme or reason to them.

I see, well next time I'm in a bookstore or library, I'll find his stuff, close my eyes and grab something.

Mr. Croup, formerly known as DietSpam, do you know the quality of August Derleth's writing? I know he was a friend of Lovecraft, and did much to spread his literature, but what of his own writing? I want to know if he's a cheap rip off or a decent disciple of the insane Lovecraft before I start reading his works, and I was wondering if you'd know.
