NOTE: this is here because no one will read it on the poetry board, although there is a copy of it there
Words
What are these?
Symbols we call letters
Glyphs we call words
What do they mean?
Communication
Of what?
Love
Hatred
Annoyance
Are such strong things able to be expressed this way?
No
Then what do we do to express them?
Kiss
Kill
And yell incoherently
What War Is Like
Everyone Talking about it
Everyone denouncing it
Obsessive news coverage
So this is what war is like in the US
Everyone has a gas mask on
Everyone is frightened
Sirens scream like banshees
So this is what war is like in Kuwait
Missiles howl overhead
Bombs bursting in the air
Guns rattle off their death
So this is what war is like on the front
Homes bombarded by missiles
Innocents disembowled by shrapnel
Young children traumatized
So this is what war is like in Baghdad
Aftermath
Veterans become changed
Unhappy
Shocked
Destroyed
Survivors are damaged
Traumatized
Ruined
Undone
Leaders gain renown
Heros
Villians
Well known
Everone else
DEAD
Nature
A bird flies
Until shrapnel breaks its wings
A tiger hunts
Until gun fire eviscerates its body
A tree grows
Until bombs incinerate its leaves
A fish swims
Until oil fills its lungs
A bee buzzes
Until fire burns its hive
A chicken clucks
Until gas poisons its food
A cat purrs
Until a tank silences it
We kill
Until there is nothing left
Nature doesn't kill us
Until we kill it
No one ever
No one ever stops
To smell the roses
Anymore
No one ever stops
To watch the bees work
Anymore
No one ever stops
To appreciate the beauty of birds
Anymore
No one ever stops
to marvel at the complexity of ants
Anymore
No one ever stops
To love the magnificent red woods
Anymore
Everyone stops
To wonder at something
Its called war
Yes I wrote all of these
