Some think that happiness Lies in the cherry blossoms that fall They don’t realize That it’s not there at all
I’m tired of receiving flowers Yellow lilies and daffodils Sitting in bouquets On my windowsill
There are too many of them Given from whom? I never know I could let them fall around me Like silver flakes of snow
Only those too afraid Give blossoms to you Men who are too shy To speak words loving and true
So many in my room Daisy and lotus fair But they are not beautiful! The happiness isn’t there!
I sit among the cherry blossoms They drift all around me But whether the happiness is there I can never see

Here is a poem gaurenteed to get a good grade in English class:
Life is dreadful, Then I die. As rain falls, To its death.
I know, I think it is pretty bad too, but I know several English teachers who would melt with the sounds of its words.

That's actually pretty good, if not great. I'd give it a B or a B+.

You can't be serious!
PS. A B or B+ in not necissarily a good grade.

I notice how you put "above average" and not above average.

Well all English grades depend on opinion of the teacher on where the line of seperation between pass and fail is.

no, sometimes a teacher is influenced by how much they like the student, and occationally (note: this is a very rare case) the teacher is willing to acknowledge good writing even when it is in a style that they, personally, dont like

By the way, I wrote that poem in about 3 seconds after one of the many poems we have read in English class. I thought it was pretty representative (but you're right, it does deserve an F)

It's not THAT bad if you think about it, geez. Although, the overly use of death is *ahem* stupid.

Considering that the entire poem is an over usage of death, then the entire poem is stupid.
