Broken Rhythm
If this world is a painting
Then it shouldn't be grayscale
Yet everyone tries to make it that way
You're all caught up in that broken rhythm
That drags you from day to day
I hear the clicking of your ballpoint pens
As you uncover the adhesive label back
You build walls around the best of us
Blend everything into a shade of black
We're all being spaghettified
Strechted into a single atom chain
Sucked into the darkness
Deprived of forgotten illumination
Savion told me there'd always be the beat
I truely believe that it's still hiding there
Faintly
Without audience
I've heard of deafness
But these people choose disability
Instead of beauty
Sometimes I wish the world was a plain wooden floor
So I could ingrain my rhythm
Into everyone's brain
Shuff flap toe toe
Everything
Toe stamp
is
pullback
too
brush hop
complex
toe stamp
and I wish
shuffle hop
ball change
that I could
spin
retrieve
The shards of sanity
The scraps of this collage
Called creativity
Mass murdered every day
By society
The ones I love
Forced to give testimony
For crimes they didn't commit
Who scratched this CD?
Stop the record! I need to change this world.
There's too many nails scraping on the chalkboard
Too many sketchbooks are being burned by glares
Too many voices are being silenced by ignorance
I want to take my feet
And tap on the dry wood that's left
Of what was once green
and rich
and full of
life
before
the
genocide
And brand it with a new rhythm
Have the selflessness of a donor
Keep it pulsating
Until it all starts to breathe again
Fight a battle
In this mental war
Until people start to see again
And if my feet bleed before I'm done
Then at least my flesh will go to what has none.
FIN
Notes- Spaghettified is a real word. It's the scientific term for what happens to objects caught in a black hole (they get stretched until they are only one atom thick).
Also, Savion Glover is a famous tap dancer.
Finally, all that weird "stuff" in the middle there are the names of tap steps.
