Yes, I know I have far too much time on my hands to be thinking about Hallowe'en in July but seriously when you have nothing else to think about at work, you plan ahead. Waaay ahead. So this is a costume idea that's been floating around now for about three weeks and I'd love to pull it off. I do realise that there's something up with her legs that I haven't quite figured out yet, but the main focus for the picture is the clothing anyways. *There will be plently of accent pieces for this too, including braclets/rings/gold necklace, &c. &c. EDIT: I've made the arms a bit longer now, hopefully she dosen't look too weird...

LOVE it. Her legs are too thin is the problem. Girl needs thighs. And more thigh at the top than the bottom compared to how she is now

I don't think it's so much the legs but instead that her arms are just a tad too short.

I agree with nick, the legs arent so much the problem except that its not well proportioned to the upper body. The arms are a little short, and I also think that her waist is a little small. AS far as the costume goes, very nice, but I would not reccomend that hat, it doesnt seem to go very well with the rest of it (even though it is piraty). Id just go with a headband or something.

2 notes:
The waist is a tad small... As a side art lesson for those who don't know proportions (considering I don't know how much of this got drilled into you) the smallest your waist can EVER be is the width of your head. That's when it is fully corsetted and being pulled in. Unless she's fully corseted, you'd have to fill out her torso area and waist and all that to make it look right. (Granted, when I'm not worrying about silly things like that, I ignore the waist rule...it's one of the easier ones to ignore and not have it weird one out)
Okay, note number 2: There is a problem with the legs...in a way, Alex IS right... The thighs do need to be filled out. Mostly, the gap between her legs is close to unrealistic. It's either she's standing really REALLY funny to pull off that effect, or she needs more leg.
Other artistic notes: the knee on the right needs to face more the direction of the leg...it's a little TOO centered. Just barely...you put the knee straight center while the foot turns a little off and it feels like it should follow with each other.
Also, the shoes...one shoe looks like it has a rounded toe, the other clearly does not...
And the hat sits just a bit too high on the head to look like it's actually on her head vs floating. I actually know that style of hat is annoying to draw, so if you're looking for a picture fixing stage vs. just costume design, I'd recomend looking up pictures and using photo reference. Copying photos and stuff is one of the best ways to learn how to draw without reference.
Now, about the costume choice: I don't think I'd ever dissaprove a pirate costume!

how are you going to make your eyebrows go over your hair like that?

first, ya shave 'em off. Then, you collect the shavings, apply them to clear double-sided scotch tape and stick the other side of the tape to your hair.
