Is now a nicely coloured CG! It's 17mins past my bed time and I have to be up in 6 hours, but I don't care right now. This is a little doodle I did for JP's new possible layout for his website, and why not post it here too? I'll post all major stages of the pic too, so first is the original sketch, scanned: Second, the Photoshop inked lines, now nice and crisp and clean: And third, the coloured version that I did today: I'm actully kinda proud of this, considering I've been in a bit of a slump now for a month,I might actully be getting out of it now! yays ^_^

Very impressive. You did a fantastic job on the metal. I can still manage a few criticisms though (I'm not letting you off that easy, hehehe). First of all, there seems to be an anatomy issue with the first drawing. The shoulders are far too pulled back. This seems to have caused a perspective problem with the corner of the sholderpad (the heart). Unless it's just sticking out like that, the design shouldn't even be visible. Most of this isn't really too major, especially since it's more of a glyph than anything else.
There are, however, two more major problems. The first is that the other side of the mask is visible. Unless the mask is not symmetrical or is for some reason tilted, this should not be visible unless your eyes are really far apart and you tilt your head sideways (though that would cause other problems). The second is a bit more debatable, but there are a few iffy parts on the gold. On the underside of the curvature, you gave it bright white highlights. while it definitely should be bright on the underside because of the light reflecting off the ground, it should not be that bright. This is all assuming the light source is coming from above.
None of this really detracts from it at all, but as a nit-picky artist I feel obliged to point out every perceivable flaw. I could be wrong on some of this, but I think it's accurate for the most part.

ok.. while Im not an artist like Nick is. I dont actually think most of what he says is worthwhile because they are problems that arent really staring me in the eye, and that even after looking at the picture for about 20 seconds I still cant see the problem. The one huge exception to this is the mask being visible on the other side. Nick hit that one on the dot. As far as the gold goes Im not expert on lighting but I cant tell that theres anything wrong. And while the pose is a little awkward, especially in the sketch, the final makes it just look like its not a direct profile, but that he is angled a little towards the viewer. Great job. I am really impressed with the job you did highlighting the metal.

Hey I love critisim! Serisouly be as nit picky as you'd like. ^^ But yeah, I tried going for the full torso thing in the sketch but scrapped that idea becuase I was having no luck waht-so-ever. As for the highlights and such, I wouldn't be suprised if they were off mainly becuase I realised half way through colouring it that I had no specific lightsource. I blame the heat wave for making me forget, lol.
So let's just say that he's a really "shiny" individual! lol, Thanks so much for the comments and the compliments on the metal, I love colouring metal/jewels/shiny thingys. ^_^

Wow, that's really good. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the shoulders.

is SHINY. I think it's beautifully done. While I dabble in art on occasion, I'm not really an artist. Certainly not artist enough to pull anything like this off. And I will agree with Nick and Ali that the mask isn't quite right. And I can't shake the impression that the head is really funny shaped, because of the depth of the helmet and the slope of the visor. But I imagine that the draconic feel of the head piece was the main point. The corollary can be any species it wants.
is still shiny. I have a limited vocabulary. 'I can read words of one letter! Isn't that grand?' and no one will get that reference, I'm sure.

To be perfectly honest (delayed as this is) as a fellow artist, I actually do see everything that nick brought out. Shoulders and all. But whatever, nick covered everything I would have critiqued anyway But I felt like tossing on another artist's opinion however late it is. ~*~Me
