would someone care to explain to me the attraction of anime? cuz i never got it Same as any other show, minus bad acting and dirt poor special effects (the kind you see in stuff like Buffy). It's all drawn in, and it is thus much more of an art form than standard movies (movies are much more technical, and thus, in my mind, use less creativity and more logic).

i resent that, having spent about five months making a movie... the cinematography and editing are a lot more creative/artistic than most ppl think

I didn't mean to attack live action movies, but having to draw in every detail is truly a stupendous feat. I've been trying to start a comic, and even drawing a few different angles of the same character and have them look like the same character is very difficult. The kind of detail prevalent in a Miyazaki or Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and Ninja Scroll) film must take a backbreaking amount of effort. Even trying to draw realistic grass is unbelievably difficult (as I know from spending four years in art class) and takes a great amount of artistic vision. While in movie making, you essentially line up a camera, actors, backdrop, and lights (and I agree, it is hardly as easy as it sounds), in an animated production you must visualize and craft every single one of these things by hand. The cinemetography and editing work is still very prevalent in an animated movie, in fact, the choices about what goes where must be done before hand so as not to produce unneccesary animation.
With an animated feature, one also obtains more freedom of setting and character. The main reason I stress the amount of creativity involved in animation is that lack of boundaries one has in these fields, and thus one is only inhibited by one's imagination and creativity, rather than the technology on hand.

I agree with Nick. There are difficulties when animating and when filming LA, but LA is more pushing the limits you know. (Can you set off a decent explosion and still not get sued for damages.) When you only need pencil and paper, it's more of a question of what can't you do. That and anime is prettiful, yay for shiny panels.
I would think Dancing Lights look better when they're drawn. =P
and you know, it's all about the blue hair.

And having a mouth that is small when closed and ridiculously huge when opened. Oh, and let us not forget having a head shaped like a bean.

the eyes are the real sort of bizarre part in my mind, outside of that its the mouth and the jaw, the rest of it (not counting hair) might be realistic in some sense (this varies depending on the artist's style)
i don't believe homestar runner deserves the designation of anime, just crappy flash site, but thats just me

oh please, that was a joke, not a point
and there are various ways to draw anime, the standard kind you find with things like Vandread, PokeMon, the Rurouni Kenshin tv series and then there's whatever the artists' little hearts desire, like Last Exile, the RuroKen OAVs.... afore mentioned don't have the bug eyes or the impossible hair
variety in eye candy wise too....
<<;; hurrah for bishounen

Actually, I think the eye thing isn't really that wierd. I actually find it hard to draw acurately sized eyes when I'm drawing smaller characters, and it also makes it easier to show emotion, as the eyes are the strongest way to comunicate this.

I like Dragonball Z because it is really well drawn.
Also I would like to say that I figured out that Salome is actually Henry. I can't believe I never saw that until now when Henry mentioned making his movie.
I agree that this could make him also Neals but the thing is Salome said that he would attend Jeffs downtown walk. Henry was there but Neals wasn't so therefore Salome is Henry.
I am so smart.

I don't think you could be more wrong about who salome is, Kimiisa... Don't brag about how smart you are if you are wrong.
Also, DBZ has a rather simplistic drawing style compared to some other animes.
