this makes little to no sense. the experimental pieces ARE the masterpieces. no.. not necessarily. Some are, but most are simply a redone version of another piece, with only a bit of experimentation done within it. Others are more fully experimental, and some of those are good, while others, arent. Eitherway, to appreciate those kinds of pieces, one needs to have a more distinct background in the kind of music it belongs to.

If you read my post before the edit, disregard it.
My stance on the issue, but feel free to disagree:
1) A person likes a certain type of music because of their personality. (likes and dislikes) 2) People like certain artists for some or all the defining aspects of their music, such as melody, mood, lyrics, or rhythm. Not everyone listens to the same artists for the same reasons. 3) If a person finds they like an artist of a different genre than the one they listen to the most, it means that the artist's music probably represents a different area of the person's personality. 4) People might not like a certain artist because certain aspects of the artist's music might not appeal to them. For example, someone who likes rhythm might like rap, but someone who enjoys melody might not. 5) Universally liked songs contribute mixed aspects of many genres. For example, if a song has a typical metal melody but penetrating lyrics, both intellectuals and metalheads will like it. 6) There are some songs with a certain aspect that most people can relate to, and this aspect overshadows any potential turn-offs that enemies of the genre might hear. Such songs are often designated "catchy" and include "Stairway to Heaven", "Smoke on the Water", and others.
Ali: what emotions do you like to see/hear/read about? What aspects of music are you most interested in? What do you like most about your Latin Jazz group?

One Loney Visitor by Chevelle if you're interested in trying acoustic rock
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin, again the acoustic rock, but with an organ and better vocals
Meloncolly and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins. Don't let the fact that it is done by a grunge band divert you, it is a very beautiful song done completely by piano and violin.
New York Minute by the Eagles
December by Static-X, well if you're interested in odd sounding new age. Anything else by them you would loathe with a passion equal to my loathing of country music.
Try these out, tell us what you like from what we suggest and let us see what we can work with.

You might like "Soldier of Fortune" and "Lalena" by Deep Purple if you liked "Stairway to Heaven". Do you like "Hotel California"?

Erlkonig (the "o" is supposed to have the two little dots over it, but I can't get that to work with the ASCII table on the links board) or you might find it as Elfking or Erlking. It is a German lieder opera song. I don't know the singer, or composer, but I do know the name if it helps ><;;
