I don't know of any good sites, but I have some old "teach-yourself-to-play-guitar" books with increasing level of difficulty. If you live nearby, or if you'll be at Geneva's party tomorrow, I can lend them to you.

Well, the mail is your friend.
The lightrail is also your friend. Although, considering I have no idea where in San Jose or where in Mountain View either of you live, the lightrail might not be your friend.
Choose your friends wisely!!

It's ok, I guess you can just keep them. I haven't used them in a long time, and I doubt I ever will.
To what extent "beginner" do you mean, though? Which, on a scale of 1 - 10 (one being "Ode to Joy" level and ten being something really hard), would you like?

I think I'd be around the area of 1, on the scale all I know is how to tune a guitar, A chord, D chord, E chord, G chord, power chords, which strings are what note and how they change depending on which fret you push the string down on and i haven't learned any songs, but I can almost play the intro to "come as you are" by nirvana

Buy Frederick Noad's book 'Solo Guitar Playing 1' and learn through it. If you alread know how to read music and have some knowledge of the fretboard, you should be able to skim the earlier chapters and get into the more interesting pieces within a few months time. Then again, you probably want to learn rock guitar (that book is on classical)...I don't know any good books for that, though. Try looking up tabs of songs you like on sites like www.olga.net and www.mxtabs.net. Start with simple, chord-driven songs, they'll help you build up finger strength without overwhelming your brain.

thanks, if I find a copy, and have money on me at the time, I'll probably end up buying it I sorta know how to read music, but I'm very slow at it, but thats probably because I've only learned this year, thanks to my music appreciation class and I probably will end up learning rock guitar, simply because most of hte guitar players I could snag a lesson from are rock guitar players, but I might as well end up learning classical, too
