I especially like how you picked two relatively similar classical music genres and left it at that.

Actually, the two different genres of orchestral music are completely different; as different as rock and rap

...and yet both orchestral.

Your point?
Also, the orchestras from both times are generally composed of different instruments. For intsance, in the time of Bach, orchestras consisted of Strings, Oboes, Bassoons, and Horns.
Eventually Mozart began the use of Clarinets.
All this style by the time of Beethoven was somewhat mechanical.
Beethoven introduced the new age in Orchestral music based on producing intense emotion from the orchestra. Now, instead of using the basic string and horn orchestra, all sorts of instruments are added, including Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium, Trumpet, Flute, and all sorts of bizarre percussion. Also, this is when music analysis came to be, which aided the change in musical direction.
It's just as different as Rock and Rap.

As different as Rock and Rap, but still an incomplete representation of classical music.

Just out of curiosity, which category would piano solos (such as those of Chopin and Rachmaninov) fall into? Not orchestral, in any case...

thanx for the history lesson jeff and i agree w/ the others... ur list is way too incomplete... and why do you put other (which any of the things u didnt mention would have to count as) w/ techno? just cuz i like somethin not mentioned doesnt mean i like techno

I never said you did like techno. If you voted for the last one, it says you like Techno or something else. And please tell me what I didn't include.
Piano music counts as orchestral because they are stylistically the same.

Please give Dr. Quack some slack (hey, that rhymes, doesn't it).
There is a limit to how many choices you can put on a poll, and given the enormous amount of music genres, I think he did a pretty good job of categorizing.
