Alright, so after a long hiatus from playing any new Megaman games, I did some reasearch on X8 and nearly smacked myself for not getting it sooner. I just finished unlocking everything (legit) and beating the game yesterday.
I was hesitant at first to spend money on it right away because of the horrible job Capcom did on X7. The controls were clunky, and the jump to 3D was shotty at best. Not to mention that once again, the voice-overs sucked ass.
ANYWAY, X8 is a 2.5D game. It's rendered in 3D, but it's a completely side scrolling game.
The characters: Voice-overs= fucking awsome. eveyone sounds like how they should to me. It was a relife. Now, X gets powers from bosses like normal. Zero gets moves, but you can also find him different weapons, like a Glaive, Fans, Brass Knuckles, Thunder Hammer, and Sigma Blade. Each weapon you equip and you can do all the boss moves with each. it's fucking awsome. And Axl isn't a mere copy almost of X anymore. he has a 360 degree shooting ability, and instead of powers, he gets guns which have unlimited ammo: Grenade launchers, gatling guns, flame throwers, etc. it's sick.
Gameplay: so you get to pick 2 playable characters and a Navigator, or Operator (Layer, Pallette, and Alia) for each mission. The Navi give you advice, like boss tips, or where secret itmes are, depening on which one you pick. each has her own specialty. You can pick from Axl, Zero, X, or X in his new Neutral Armour, whcih you can "plug" in parts for. Mix and match, so to speak, there's 2 parts for each body part (armour, buster, boots, helmet.) You can freely switch between your 2 playable charas mid game, and like in fighing tag team games, your character can recov when not in action. You can also sdo a tag team assist, and super attack, which bring both out for a "super"
Finally, Sigma is NOT the last boss in the game for the first time, although he does make mulitple appearences. I won't spoil who it really is, although it's easy to look up.
Story: awsome. good plot, and an excellent lead up to the Megaman Zero Series. If anyone wants me to elaborate on it I'll post it later.
Unlockables: so you can get the special armours in the game for each chara. Black Zero, Ultimate 4th Armour for X, and introducing White Axl, which looks cool. and finally, this is what really got my attention and pushed me to get it is that you can unlock the three Navigators as PLAYABLE characters. Each one has the same moveset as one of the Hunters (Layer=Zero, Pallette=Axl, and Alia=X). kind of redundent, but I'm a huge Alia fan, and to actually get to play as her is way awsome for me. You can mix and match, like ytou can Take Axl and Alia for example, but if you pick to play as a navi, you don't get to pick another to babble at you in the level. They level up seperate from the Hunters as well, so you'll need a lot of cash to buy all their items.
and the soundtrack PWNS. I'm obsessed.
whew. I think that's it. I doubt anyone will really care enough, but if you have any questions. I'll answer. And before you ask, yes, it was totally worth way more than the $20 I paid for it. so GET IT.
