but religion didn't help them stay pure, and i'm talking about millions of people that were devoutly religious but killled or maimed because of it.

They knew they weren't doing things right - they just needed an excuse.

if you think about religious teachings over time, they claim one thing, then change their mind (most of them at least) when some one comes up w/ a better alternative...
so how can somebody know that they arent gonna decide that the religious beliefs of today are wrong as soon as someone finds something new?

sorry, i didnt finish my thought and i dont know how to add to previous posts...so
given what people know and what they used to think they knew, religion seems to be nothing more than an uneducated set of guesses to explain everything that couldn't be understood by the people of the time. however on the other side, there are still things that can only be explained by religion
also, the crusades/ the holocaust etc dont disproove religion

Science does have an explaination for the Big Bang. It may not sound too scientific, but they do have a reason...

They claim a random fluctuation in the primordial atom. But in truth, the beginning will never be verified since it is impossible for anyone to observe it.

there is no infinite time, it must have come into existance at some point... therefore, why did it come into existance? something must have caused it to do so...what?

By the way. The crusades and Jihad were committed by loony fanatics who give religion a bad name, and are thus more famous for it than the ones who are kept pure and moral because of religion. Yes, religion does release fanatics, but it also releases order and sanity.
